I say, "I don't eat pork."
They say, "You're in a cult."
I say, "But Jesus didn't eat pork."
I say, "I keep the feasts."
They say,"You're in a cult."
I say, "But Jesus kept the feasts."
I say, "I wear tzitzit."
They say, "You're in a cult."
I say, "But Jesus wore tzitzit."
I say, "I am not intimate during menstruation."
They say, "You're in a cult."
I say, "But God called doing this an abomination."
I say, "I hold myself accountable to the law."
They say, "You're in a cult."
I say, "But Jesus held everyone accountable to the law and everyone will be judged in the end by the law."
Consider, if we are merely following in the footsteps of Jesus, doing all the things He did while putting our faith in His sanctifying grace for where we fall short, and this is somehow considered being in a cult by modern Christians... was Jesus then a cult leader for saying, "If you love me, keep my commandments."? For telling His disciples to teach the nations everything He had taught and commanded them?
Was Paul a cult leader for saying, "For as many as sinned without Law will also perish without Law. And as many as sinned within Law will be judged through Law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified."?
Was James a cult leader for saying "Faith apart from works is dead."?
Was John a cult leader for saying, "The one saying, I have known Him, and not keeping His commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that one."
Was Peter a cult leader who refused to eat unclean animals when he was tested and commanded to do so three times?
I could go on pointing out how many times Jesus and His disciples taught to keep the WHOLE law and never inferred parts of it would expire, but I think the point is made.
Today we allow things God called abominations (this means something that is detestable in His sight) all in the name of grace. Hebrews speaks of those who continue willfully to break the law after coming to the knowledge of the truth and thereby outrage the spirit of grace and that the wrath of God abides on these people. I know most Christians disobey some of His commandments in ignorance, but before you say someone is in a cult for following in the footsteps of Jesus and His disciples, think twice...
Isaiah 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
There are many ingenuine who claim obedience to all the laws I mentioned, while still being unrighteous and unloving in other ways, and this is what James addressed when he said, "Those who break one law, are guilty of breaking all the Law." They are not being obedient to the law as they claim and must repent!
Matthew 28:19,20 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
1 John 2:3-6 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments ... whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which He walked.
Luke 16:17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void.
If people say I'm in a cult, fallen from grace, going back under the law, teaching the doctrine of demons, preaching a different gospel, and devoid of truth merely because I take pleasure in doing all the same things that my Messiah did, not feeling the least bit burdened by it, then so be it. I'm content, no, joyful, to pursue this lifestyle, and I cannot be bothered by such accusations, although it is sad to me that such words come from those I consider brothers and sisters in Christ.
